Open Relay

Post by PoYeung » 03 Sep 2013 02:42

I have been using proxsmtp as incoming content filter for my mail server. unfortunately, I found that it's become an open relay server. How to fix it? thank you very much.

Hi!

Too few details about your configuration and versions...

Please take a look at Copfilter Wiki, perhaps this can help...?

My system informaition:
ipcop : 1.4.21
copfilter : 0.85.2

there is a warning in Proxsmtp module, it says :All incoming emails will be resent from your ipcop firwall to your mail server, which means that if
you allow relaying from your ipcop's ip address, you mail server will become an open relay !!
does it mean enabling filtering incoming mails = becoming a open relay server ?
is it possible for us to filter the incoming emails without being a mailspam ? and how?

thanks.

Hi PoYeung ,

It's a risk with ProxSMTP! This will open port 25 on your firewall.

Sorry, i'm not using ProxSMTP to filter incomming mails (but P3Scan, and ProxSMTP for outgoing mails as many users). But as FisherM said, you will find answers in the wiki: http://www.copfilter.org/wiki/doku.php? ... d_exchange
for example:
- recommended ProxSMTP-switches and settings
- settings for your server
-Testlink
and more.
