[SOLVED]email size issue

Postby ljr0 » 20 May 2014 18:16

there are spam messages that are mostly attached images that exceed the spam checker size limit of 512000 bytes. These messages get through without being checked.
proxsmptd produces this message:
May 20 10:15:54 ipcop4 spamc[5172]: skipped message, greater than max message size (512000 bytes)

I had overcome this by creating a spamc.conf file in /copfilter/default/opt/mail-spamassassin/etc/mail/spamassassin folder with one line in it:
-s <size>

This file is not longer being read in version: 2.1.92beta4

how do I work around this?

No one knows where this file is being read from? Does anyone know how I can find out this information for myself?

Hi,

If i'm right, it's in the copfilter/opt/mail-spamassassin/default/bin/spamc daemon file.

You can check with :
Code: Select all
grep -lR "skipped message, greater than max message size" *

Regards.

that's a binary file. Where do I put the options file, so when spamc is launched it reads the corrected options?

Hi,

I think this information is not present in a conf file. It seems you need to modify the spamc file.

You can find an howto here (backup the file before): http://forum.parallels.com/showthread.p ... ssage-size (don't forget to change the path for the file).

regards.

Edit:
OK, I found: http://spamassassin.apache.org/full/3.2 ... spamc.html
You need to use the -s option

If i'm right, it should be:
Code: Select all
/var/log/copfilter/default/opt/mail-spamassassin/default/bin/spamc -s [size you want in bytes]

I tried that already. It just hangs. It might be running, but I can't leave it there. I have to disconnect.

But I already know about the spamc file. All versions prior to this latest release (2.1.92beta4) all I had to do was create the spamc file in the location I indicated above and it would use the new size. I posted about this a long time ago and have found it invaluable. Right now I'm getting tons of spam that are 600 and 800KB. It's not even being checked for blacklists or anything. I really can't believe that I'm the only one getting this problem. Isn't everyone getting the anti-aging, look younger images just sailing through their spam filters??? Am I the only one? I even have an Obama announces HARP program that's 962KB. It's makes me look bad and the only reason it's there is because i upgraded this server to the lastest release.

Unfortunately, that doesn't create the file for me. It just hangs and never creates anything. Of course, I'm probably missing something, but I followed the steps and it didn't create a spamc out of the spamc-orig like it said it would.

Sorry, did not saw this thread!

You can pass start options to spamc, which could be done on mailscanner.sh
Code: Select all
-s max_size, --max-size=max_size

If you need something like this, let me know!
But could you show me a part of your spamassassin log files, where the mails was scanned?

Do you mean the spamd.log file?

I looked at mailscanner.sh and don't see where to add the options.
