  • Extensive knowledge about the working(s) of the IPCop-Firewall and Copfilter in general, plus extensive Linux experiences are an absolute must for the updates and modifications that are described!
  • This is not for novices to experiment, you need to know what you are doing and what the consequences may be…
  • A full backup, a functioning restore, and the willingness to reinstall a defective IPCop-system are prerequisites!

1.1. Basic installation

Depending on the Copfilter version level you should run at least the Basic Installation and the ClamAV update.

  • The basic installation alone may not be sufficient (especially for newcomers), as major sub-components may have been updated since the publication of the current package.
  • Below is a table with the version numbers of various sub-components of Copfilter versions V1 and V2.
  • Links refer to the wiki area where updates may be found.

1.2. Update installation

Important note:

  • This is unfortunately the nature of things. Because of the relatively short update intervals of the different Copfilter components it may happen that important individual components were updated after Copfilter was published.

1.3. ClamAV / HAVP update (karesmakro)

Current version: ClamAV 0.100.0 / C-ICAP 0.4.4 and HAVP 0.92a for IPCop 2.x (V2).

Please note:
Unless otherwise stated, HAVP and C-ICAP are NOT included.

Important note!

  • This version requires more performance / memory than older versions.
  • If the 3rd party signatures are enabled, the system requires at least 1GB of RAM!
  • The signature databases are still growing, new features and techniques for virus detection mean that more power is needed.

Recommended minimum hardware:

  • PIII/700
  • 1 GB RAM
  • 4 GB HDD

1.4. Update - signature check 0.92 for ClamAV

Not necessary by all means, but extremely useful: the signature check prevents downtimes caused by by damaged ClamAV signature databases

This modification has been revised and renewed, it will be automatically uninstalled during the installation of the 3rd party signatures (since Copfilter 2.0.91beta4, 3rdPs are included).
